Mr. Dennis Lee Hitsman, 66, of Old Town, Florida died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his home.
He was born September 5, 1952 in Waterloo, Iowa to Kenneth M. and Jane (Morgan) Hitsman. He married Beverly Johnson in 1980. He later married Sally M. Palmer March 31, 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Dennis Lee Hitsman, Jr. of Keokuk, Iowa, two daughters, Janelle Haselby of Johnston, Iowa and Carin Ison of Keokuk, two step sons, Beau Nation of Waco, Texas and Isaac Nation of Chandler, Texas, two sisters, Janice (and Richard) Gipple of Burlington, Iowa and Cheryl (and Phillip) White of Burlington, and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis served in the United States Navy during Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He was a conductor for Burlington Northern/ Santa Fe Rail Road for 28 years and retired April 25, 2000. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of the Rail Road Conductor’s Union. Dennis enjoyed fishing, kayaking, and traveling with his wife.
Cremation was accorded. A memorial service will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida at a later date. The Naval Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
