Mr. Francis Atlee Sheetz

Mr. Francis A. Sheetz, 84, of Galesburg died at 11:39 p.m., Sunday, January 5, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born March 1, 1935 in Galesburg to Earl I. and Pearl J. (Harshbarger) Sheetz. He married Diane Wilson October 20, 1957 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Diane W. Sheetz of Galesburg, one son Roger Sheetz of Galesburg, two daughters Julie (Bill) Gerber of San Diego, California and Audra Sheetz of Galesburg. Also surviving are one grandson Alex Sheetz, one great-grandson Easton Sheetz, and two sisters Eileen Hanson of Knoxville and Betty Malone of Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one older brother in infancy Carl Gene Sheetz.

Francis graduated from Galesburg High School in 1954 and went straight into the workforce. He worked at OMC Gale Products for 29 years until their closing. Francis then went on to work in custodial services at Knox College for 10 years before his second retirement. He then worked at Hardees in Galesburg from 1998 until spring 2019. Francis was a hardworking man who enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Francis and Diane enjoyed going square-dancing and ballroom dancing. He was of Jehovah’s Witness faith, being baptized in 1952.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Satuday, January 11, 2020 at Kingdom Hall in Galesburg. Jeffrey Kellogg will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
