Obituary

Mr. Fred Vernon Eskridge, Sr. 82, of Alpha, Illinois died peacefully Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at his home with his family by his side.

Fred was born February 9, 1937 in Galesburg the son of Lyndle and Eileen Weatherford Eskridge. He married Claudia C. Miller in 1958 in California. He later married Cheri Newbern in 1978.

Fred is survived by his children, Michael (Tracy) Eskridge of Galesburg, Cynthia (Kevin) Reedy of Alpha, Jeffrey (Maria) Eskridge of Alpha, Sean (Jillian) Eskridge of Macomb, Illinois and Shane (Kimberly) Eskridge of Aledo, Illinois; his brother, Ronald Eskridge of Galesburg and twelve grandchildren, Lyndle Eskridge, Erika Eskridge, Colton Motz, Tristan Eskridge, Jessika Eskridge, Kory Eskridge, Valerie Gamez, Brody Esp, Liam Eskridge, Sydney Eskridge, Drayden Downing and Delanie Downing. He is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son, Fred V. Eskridge, JR.

Fred served 8 years in the US Marines from 1955-1963. He also served 22 years in the National Guard. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1955. Fred completed Lincoln Barber College and worked as a barber for over 50 years. He worked for Case IH retiring after 32 years.

He enjoyed spending time with family and coffee time with friends. He loved spending time outdoors on his property and having wiener roast with his family.

Fred’s wishes were to be cremated, with a private family service. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Hospice Compassus. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremations Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
