Herbert R. Curtis, 86, of Galesburg, died at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born February 4, 1932, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, the son of Harold Herman and Gracie Mae (Shirley) Curtis. He married Bernadine M. Lamb December 24, 1955 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death November 8, 2016.
He is survived by four children, Charlie (Tammy Perez) Curtis, Lucinda Roller, Kimberly Curtis, and Tommy Curtis, all of Galesburg; 11 grandchildren, Kandi Curtis, J.R. Curtis, Nic Curtis, Amber Jordan, Kristina Curtis, Butch Curtis, Thomas Curtis Pflasterer, Rickie Roller Jr., Austyn Curtis, Ryan Curtis Pflasterer, and Cameron Curtis; 11 great grandchildren; five sisters, Pat Usher of Bolivar, Missouri, Barbara Asher of Galesburg, Jean Segebrecht of Missouri, Virginia Gaylord of Galesburg, and Phyllis (Paul) Simpson of Galesburg; a brother, Lurman (Christine) Curtis of Mendon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Herbert worked at Gale Products for a time. He worked many years at Rogers Brothers as a mechanic. He enjoyed racing stock cars and go carts, fishing, camping, his dogs, spending time with his family, and giving people a hard time.
Herbert served in the United States Army.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
