Howard W. Rowland, 82 of DeLong, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born July 13, 1936 in Kirbyville, Missouri, the son of John and Frances (Simpson) Rowland. He married Cornelia A. Forrester in 1957 in Logan, Missouri.
Howard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Cornelia; three daughters, Peggy Polson, Debbie (and Junior) Peacock and Cindy (and Erick) Olin, all of Galesburg; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Otto Rowland of Sparta, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and one granddaughter, Michelle Bartlett.
He had lived in DeLong over 50 years. He worked as a meat cutter at the Eagles Grocery Stores on Fremont Street, East Main Street, and North Henderson Street for 30 years, retiring from the North Henderson Street Store. His hobbies included going to the boats, playing scratch-off lottery tickets, going to garage sales, fishing, working jigsaw puzzles, feeding the hummingbirds and gardening. He was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He also liked his television, and was a big John Wayne fan. He also enjoyed his time with his coffee friends at Hardee’s in Abingdon and Knoxville.
