Mr. James J. Howerton
January 27, 1935 ~ January 4, 2018 (age 82) 82 Years OldJames Joseph Howerton, 82 of Blandinsville and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
He was born January 27, 1935 in Naylor, Missouri, the son of Joseph Dan and Mildred M. Higgs Howerton. They preceded him in death.
James is survived by two brothers, Stanley (Linh) M. Howerton of Galesburg and Michael (Michelle) G. Howerton of Davenport, Iowa; one son, William Howerton of Tucson, Arizona; one daughter, Sharon Hawks of Rockford; and one granddaughter.
He grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. He entered the Army on January 30, 1958 and was discharged on January 12, 1960. He rejoined the Army on October 29, 1961 and was discharged on August 8, 1962. He was a self-employed carpenter and had lived in Blandinsville the past 10 years.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Pastor Danny Hunt will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
