James Louis Schneider, 84, of Galesburg, formerly of Gilson, died at 1:24 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born March 12, 1934, in Chicago, the son of Louis J. and Avis (Bridger) Schneider. He married Mary Arlene Lewallen on October 18, 1958, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death December 30, 2015.
He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Cecil of Maquon and Renee (Mark) Lemons; six grandchildren, Daphne (Eric) Madrid of Texas, Kenneth (Amberlee) Cecil of Indiana, Becky (Mickey) Oeth of Missouri, Robyn (Trashawn) Mitchell of Texas, and Jeromie Aplin and Mandi (Brian) Simmert, both of Abingdon; and 11 great grandchildren, Spencer and Christian Madrid, Andrew, Trinity, and Shepherd Cecil, Kiara Bey, Hunter Oeth, James Feltner, Zowie Aplin, and Michaela and Jaceb Simmert. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Aplin; and a sister, Avis Carpenter.
Jim worked as a welder at Admiral/Maytag for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He attended Corpus Christi High School. Jim enjoyed woodworking, watching old westerns, drinking coffee, and spending time with his dog, Bailey. He attended Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev.
