Mr. Jason M. “Goph” McGraw, 45, of Galesburg, Illinois died 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.
He was born March 30, 1973 in Galesburg to John A. and Susan M. Smith McGraw. He married Tiffany Joseph August 20, 1994 in Galesburg.
Surviving are his parents, John A. and Susan M. McGraw of Galesburg, two sons, Jacob McGraw of Galesburg and Cody (and Kayla Sanders) McGraw of Henderson, Illinois, a daughter, Trinity McGraw of Henderson, his grandmother, Connie Delgado of Galesburg a brother, Eric (and Melinda) McGraw of Humboldt, Tennessee, a sister, Lindsay (and Carl) Corrigan of Victoria, Illinois, two nephews, David Dawson and Mikel Dawson and three nieces, Melina McGraw, Merica McGraw, and Amelia Corrigan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Martha McGraw and James and Susan Smith.
Goph graduated from Galesburg High School in 1991. He was a four year varsity letterman in soccer, three year varsity letterman in baseball and his senior year, lettered in wrestling. He attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. He worked for Maytag Corporation and later National Seal Company both in Galesburg. He then was a construction laborer working out of the Labor Union Local #538 in East Galesburg. Goph enjoyed sports, especially baseball. He not only played for Galesburg High School but he also played for Galesburg American Legion. He later played softball for several area teams. He was wonderful with children and was an inspirational coach for youth baseball. He loved animals and had a unique connection and trust with them. Goph was an avid Chicago Cub and Bear fan.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. A long-time friend of the family, Rev. Tyson Parks III will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at the chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.
