Mr. Jerry D. Allen

Mr. Jerry D. Allen, 65 of Abingdon, passed away at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center emergency room in Galesburg.

He was born October 10, 1952 in Galesburg, the son of Albert and Juanita (Butterfield) Allen.  He married Teresa Olinger on July 31, 1982 in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; his children, Tera (and Jim) Baumann, Tori (and Cary) Brandt and Robert Allen all of Wisconsin, Tabatha Allen-Flacco (and Rick Flacco) of rural Alexis; and Jan (and Heather) Allen of Abingdon; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ronald Allen of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Allen, his mother, Juanita Pippins and four brothers, Herbert Gale Allen, Donald D. Allen, Edwin Raymond Allen and Albert “Sam” Allen.

He attended Abingdon Schools.  He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He lived most of his life in Abingdon, but had also lived in California and Arizona.  He worked at Olson Packaging in Galesburg for 30 years and was the warehouse foreman.  He was a car enthusiast, collecting, rebuilding and watching every car repair show on TV.  He also enjoyed Sunday morning western movies on TV, mowing and working in his yard.  He loved his family and seeing the grandchildren.
Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate his life, the family will receive relatives and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Abingdon American Legion, 546 Illinois Route 41, Abingdon, IL 61410.  A Eulogy will be given at 4 p.m. followed by military rites by the Abingdon American Legion Honor Guard.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
