Jerry F. Anderson, 70, of Lake Warren, Monmouth, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at home surrounded by family.
He was born July 2, 1947, in Berwick, the son of Clifford and Martha Jane (McMurtry) Anderson. He married Zelpha Mae “Cricket” Goodell on January 20, 2002 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Cricket; three step sons, Daren L. Lewis of Enterprise, Alabama, Kendrick M. (Christina) Adkisson of Monmouth, and Bryan Higgs of Churchill, Maryland; two step daughters, Leslie R. (Brad) Hamilton of Davenport, Iowa and Deborah Higgs of New Stanton, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Robert) Jones of Quincy and Joyce Skinner of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step son, Robbie Higgs; a brother, Thomas Anderson; and two sisters, Cona Johnson and Betty Burt.
He was raised in Berwick and graduated from Roseville High School in 1965. He had lived on the east coast for over 30 years, before returning to the area in 2003. Jerry worked for Johnson Controls for several years, while living out east. He worked as a service technician for Walmart in Galesburg for 15 years, retiring April 30, 2018. He attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Galesburg.
Jerry enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his granddaughters, Jerzey, Grace, and Joon.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service with military honors will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.
