Mr. Jerry J. Cecil

Jerry J. Cecil, 74 of Abingdon, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at his home with his wife and children at his bedside.

He was born February 15, 1944 in Bardstown, Kentucky, the son of Charles Martin Cecil and Mary (Spalding) Cecil.  He married Georgine Wouters at the Abingdon Christian Church. 

Jerry is survived by his wife Georgine; one son, Anthony (and Tricia) Cecil of Abingdon his children, Joshua, Cecilia, Andrew, Meagan, Samantha, Marlena and McKayla; one daughter, Pam (and Dustin) Foster of Cedar Lake, Indiana and her children, Alex, Austin and Anthony; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ann (and Gerald) Bjorgo of East Galesburg, Connie (and Bill) Alton of Abingdon and Lois (and Greg) Miller of Abingdon;two brothers, Kenny (and Frances) Cecil of Abingdon and Jim (and Cheri) Cecil of Abingdon; a sister-in-law, Jackie Cecil of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marty Cecil.

Jerry served for 20 years in the US Air Force, serving in Vietnam, Korea and many other places prior to his retirement.  He later worked at Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon for 17 years.  He was of the Catholic faith.  He had a passion for hotrod cars.

The family would like to especially thank Patty Boone and Amy Jamerson from OSF Hospice for helping them take care of Jerry.

Private services with military rites will be held Friday, February 1, 2019.  Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or the American Legion Post #381 Honor Guard.
