Mr. Leo F. Tate, 98, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:40 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.
He was born August 10, 1920 in Knoxville, Illinois the son of Frank and Susie (McNeil) Tate. He married Betty Heiser January 12, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on November 17, 1992.
He is survived by a son, Ronald (and Paula) Tate of Galesburg, a daughter in law, Linda Tate of Dahinda, Illinois, four grandchildren, Stephanie (and Adam) Cartwright, Brandon (and Christy) Tate, Brad Tate and Kristen Tate and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Rick and Michael Tate, four brothers and eight sisters.
Leo graduated from Knoxville High School in 1939. He was in the Army from 1942 to 1946 during WWII serving in Iran. He was a machine operator at Butler Manufacturing for 32 years retiring in 1981. He attended Covenant Church in Galesburg and was a member of the Galesburg American Legion and Galesburg VFW.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg with military honors by the VFW, American Legion and AmVet Honor Guard. Pastor Jordan Knight will officiate. Visitation will be 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.
