Leonard L. Gustafson, 78, of Galesburg, Illinois died Friday, September 13, 2019 at Woodridge Supportive Living Center.
He was born November 28, 1940, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Leonard and Mary (Oberhizer) Gustafson.
He is survived by one brother, James Gustafson of Oquawka, Illinois, one sister Patricia Vandyke of Galesburg; three nephews David (Judy) Cole of Texas, Vincent Kusek of Chicago, Illinois and Ronnie Kusek of California; and three nieces Debra (Martin) Probst of Galesburg, Chistina (Tony) Law of Galesburg, and Janice Slan of Chicago, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one half-sister, Betty Kusek, and sister-in-law Marty Gustafson.
Leonard was raised and educated in Galesburg. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958. Leonard served in the United States Air force for four years; serving his country from 1958 until 1962.Upon returning home, Leonard worked for Gates Corporation for 40 years; retiring as a hose finisher in 2001. Leonard enjoyed fishing and hunting; he was a member of NRA, Ducks Unlimited, and former member of the Knox County Rifle Range.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m., Friday, September 20, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Pastor Mark Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a full Military Service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
