Mr. Lyle W. Dunlap

Lyle W. Dunlap, 95 of rural Galesburg, passed away at 4:08 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at The Elms in Macomb. 

He was born February 19, 1924 in Galesburg, the son of Edmond Glenn Dunlap and Nelle (Crotts) Dunlap.  He married Helen Barrie Swankie on October 20, 1944 in London, England.  She preceded him in death on March 4, 1999.  He later married Kathleen (Anderson) Trulson on August 27, 2000.  She preceded him in death on June 7, 2013.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Barrie Schaffer, one granddaughter, Kelli Johnson-Smith, one granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Johnson, one sister, Norma Dunlap and one half-brother and one half-sister.

Lyle is survived by one daughter, Heather (and Mark) Rice of Los Angeles, California; his grandchildren, Mark D. (and Chrystal) Johnson, Jennifer (and Matt) Foist, Brett (and Robin) Rice, Barrie (and Lauren) Rice, and Meredith (and Don) Gromala; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.  

Lyle graduated from Abingdon High School in 1942.  He served in the US Navy during WW II, Korean War and Vietnam War in communications, retiring in 1970 as a Chief Petty Officer.  He was a lifetime member of the International Chief Petty Officers Association and Monmouth VFW, member of the Atlantic Chief Petty Officers Association, Subvets Inc., Fleet Reserves Association & Eastern Canadian Chiefs.  He was also a member of the Abingdon Half Century Alumni and Lake Bracken Country Club.  He was a past Mason and Shriner.

Military rites and graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
