Michael W. Maloy Sr., 75, of Galesburg, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at home.
He was born June 28, 1943, in Galesburg, the son of John E. and Maxine Leona (Watters) Maloy. He married Ruth Ann Shinall on February 11, 1966, in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Ruth; two sons, Michael W. (Michelle McMillen) Maloy Jr. and Charles D. Maloy, both of Galesburg; a daughter, Karen D. (Patrick Thompson) Maloy of Portsmouth, Virginia; two grandchildren, Paul Maloy and Josh (Jendi) Thompson; three great grandchildren, Eliana, Malachi, and Aviel Thompson; a brother, John E. (Martha) Maloy Jr. of Godfrey; a sister, Jackie Holst of Presque Isle, Maine; a sister-in-law, Sandy Maloy of Galesburg; his mother-in-law, Virginia Hill of Galesburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Maloy.
Michael worked for St. Mary Medical Center for 25 years as a painter and in maintenance. He retired January 7, 2011. Previously, he had also worked a variety of jobs including Iowa Malleable and Gale Products.
Michael enjoyed watching eagles and barges on the Mississippi River. He also enjoyed watching trains. He was a Budweiser fan, who enjoyed collecting beer steins and seeing the Clydesdales.
Michael served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service with military honors will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery.
