Mr.Richard Eugene Spitzig, 63 of Macomb and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 525 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the McDonough District Hospital emergency room in Macomb.
He was born November 6, 1954 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the son of Bennie and Dorothy Pigg Spitzig. He married Mary Jane Domingo on March 7, 1988 in Korea.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Mary Jane; two sons, Eric (Chrissie) Spitzig of Abingdon and Gilbert Dexter Spitzig of the Philippines; two daughters, Michelle Spitzig and Casey Spitzig both of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Brendin, Hunter and Irish Jane; one brother, Robert Spitzig; one sister, Lisa (Al) Llave of Galesburg; and one half-brother, Bill Spitzig of Eldridge, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents
Richard graduated from Abingdon High School in 1972. He later attended the University of Indiana to study engineering. He served in the United States Air Force for 12 ½ years. He lived in Abingdon most of his life and in Macomb since 2015. He worked as an over the road truck driver and has been disable the past 2 years. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a big fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars football team and the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team. He enjoyed jet skiing, and reinventing everything that has already been invented. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events.
Cremation will be accorded. To celebrate his life, the family will receive relatives and friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Military rites will be accorded by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 at 6:45 p.m.
