Mr. Robert L. Colwell, 57, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born November 2, 1960, in Galesburg, the son of Henry L. and Beverly A. Hale Colwell.
Robert served in the United States Navy from 1981 to 1986.
He is survived by his two brothers, James A. Colwell of Galesburg and John W. Colwell of Loraine, Texas; two sisters, Ruth A. Vaglica and Jeanette M. Colwell, both of Galesburg; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, including his nephew, Ryan “Bo” Colwell, who Bob treated like a son. He is preceded in death by his parents.
As much as Bob hated going to work he loved his job and had spent over 28 years at Galesburg Castings. He was currently working, but had spent the last week on vacation. Bob graduated from Galesburg High School in 1979. Bob was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed going to the river and fishing. He was affiliated with the Salvation Army. His true love was working on his MG Midget car. If he wasn’t at work, he could be found in the garage under the hood of his car. He also would lend a helping hand whenever needed. He was known to everyone as “Uncle Bob”.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Mr. Dave Scholl will officiate. Military honors will be provided by VFW 2257/Legion 285 Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
