Mr. Robert E. Links

Robert E. “Bob” Links, 84 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 8:07 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

He was born February 24, 1935 in Galesburg, the son of Victor and Selma (McLaughlin) Links.  He married Nancy Howard and they later divorced.

Bob is survived by his children, Becki R. (and Mike) Simpson of Abingdon, and Judith K. (and Hilary) Domangue of Houma, Louisiana, Robert H. “Bob” (and Lynn) Links of Houma, Louisiana and Todd E. (and Lisa) Links of Labadieville, Louisiana; one son-in-law, Neil “Tony” Abbott, Jr. of Raceland, Lousiana; 13 grandchildren, Shanda (and Matt) Galt, Katie (and Bryant) Rock, Trey (and Shelly) Abbott, Travis (and Christine) Links, Nick (and Mandy) Abbott, Shane (and Lindsey) Simpson, Ryan W. Domangue, Dustin (and Angel) Links, Candace, (and Keith) Bruney, Nathan Abbott, Joshua (and Jamie) Links, Matt (and Sarah) Links, and Allyson C. Domangue; and 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Links of Abingdon; and nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Victor Links, Jr., one sister, Shirley Asencio, his ex-wife, Nancy Links, one daughter, Vanessa R. Abbott and one daughter-in-law, Nedra A. Links.

He grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1954.  He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.  He enjoyed life, traveling the world working on offshore oil rigs and teaching offshore safety until his retirement in 1984.  He received the Dale Carnegie Hero Award and was a long-standing member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge #185.  He was an avid reader and instilled this in his children.  Bob loved listening to the St. Louis Cardinals on his radio wherever he traveled to.

Cremation was accorded.  Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Abingdon Cemetery.  Pastor Bob Malone will officiate. Following the service, the family will receive relatives and friends in a time of food and fellowship at the Abingdon Christian Church.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
