Mr. Roy F. Matthews Sr.

Roy F. Matthews Sr., 93, of Altona, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, January 5, 2020, in Seminary Manor.

He was born December 7, 1926, in Cameron, the son of James and Mary (Carl) Matthews.  He married Miriam Rosalie Camp on July 11, 1983, in Altona.

He is survived by his wife of over 36 years, Rosalie; two sons, James Matthews and Roy Matthews Jr., both of Galesburg; a daughter, Katherine (Jim) Parrot of Macomb; two step-daughters, Krystal Lohrei of Franklin, North Carolina and Karole Bolin Tedin of Altona; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Don and Owen Matthews; two brothers, and a sister.

Roy was raised in the Cameron area and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1945.  He worked at Maytag for 43 years before retiring.  Roy was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  He and Rosalie enjoyed buying and selling items at flea markets and yard sales.

Roy served in the United States Marine Corps for two years during the Korean War.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg.  Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate and military honors will be offered.  There will be no visitation.  Memorial contributions may be made to Central Illinois A.B.A.T.E.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
