Mr. Terry Norville Obituary

Terry Lee Norville, of Roseville and Galesburg, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  Terry was 63.  He was born November 18, 1955, at Bergstrom AFB, near Austin, Texas.  Terry is survived by his one son, Harrison of Marquette, Michigan; both parents, Mildred and DeWayne (Mid and Russ) of Galesburg; two granddaughters, Mikhayla and Fallon; one great granddaughter, Alayna; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.  Preceded him in death was his only brother, John DeWayne and a number of cousins, nephews and nieces, and aunts and uncles.

Terry was raised in a military environment his entire youth, including high school and beyond, which meant frequent moves and location changes that the Air Force life demanded during the Cold and Vietnam Wars.

The family was uprooted 13 times by the time he was 18, meaning losing good friends and the necessity of finding new ones at each location.  He graduated from Roseville High School while his father was overseas.  After short term employment in Marquette, Michigan, he relocated to Galesburg to be near his family and was employed at Butler Manufacturing Company for a number of years.

After Butler, he was employed at various locations up to and including commercial salmon fishing in Alaska.

Terry enjoyed all sports, but especially the Chicago Bears and Cubs.  The two best seasons for him were the 1975 Bears and the 2016 Cubs, of course.  Going to Soldier Field was always a thrill even though the temperatures were sometimes below freezing with the wind blowing in from Lake Michigan on a Sunday night game that required driving nearly two hundred miles to get there.

Summertime was his favorite season when the grandchildren would come to stay with their grandparents for several weeks at a time.  He spent many afternoons entertaining them at the pool, providing his swimming and diving expertise to the young viewers.  He also enjoyed coming over and helping his mom and dad with any chores that needed to be done.  “I’ll do that dad, just sit down in the shade and drink your beer.  It is hot out there today” he would say.  That was Terry Norville.  Taken too early by a dreadful disease and will be terribly missed.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018 in East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating.  There will be no visitation.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
