Mr. Thomas B. “Tom” Carter, Jr., 64, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 11:31 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his home.
Tom was born June 7, 1954 in Moline, Illinois the son of Thomas B. and Cora Excine Walden Carter, Sr. He married Mary “Linda” Burton Smith on April 29, 1989 in Galesburg.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda of being together 29 years, his sister, Linda G. (Tom) Doubleday of Galesburg; one niece; one great niece; one great nephew; two step children; three step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas B. Carter, Sr. and Cora Excine Stranger.
Tom worked for Admiral/Maytag Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement he worked for Water Works Car Wash for 6 years. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1972. He attended the Bethany Baptist Church, Galesburg. Tom was the Union Steward with the AFLCIO Local Lodge #2063. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and listening to country oldies. Tom was an avid Alabama football fan and was an active participant in his high school class activities.
A Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tom Doubleday and Rev. John Carlson officiating. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am at the chapel. Burial service will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice.
