Thomas F. “Tom” Prior, 79 of rural London Mills and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019 at his home.
He was born July 7, 1940 in Hood River, Oregon, the son of Raymond and Ruth (Gorsline) Prior. He was raised by Harold and Erma Gorsline. He married Nancy Bovard on December 18, 1959 in St. Augustine. She preceded him in death on July 31, 1997. He later married Janet (Ashley) McKee on May 6, 2000 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on February 12, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Tom is survived by two sons, Randy (and Billie) Prior of Monmouth, and Rodney (and Donna Nell) Prior of rural London Mills; four granddaughters, Michelle Prior, Stephanie Brakeville, Candice Prior and Stephanie Robinson; six great-granddaughters, Sydney, Maddie, Alexis, Cheyenne, Piper and Cheyenne, and two great-grandsons, Logan and Tyler; stepchildren, Kelly (and Greg) Schisler of Abingdon, Dana McKee of Abingdon and Darci (and Ron) Tharp of Kirkwood and their families; and one brother, John Brewer of Greenwood, Missouri.
Tom grew up in the Abingdon area and graduated from Abingdon High School. He worked for the Berwick Elevator, did some farming, worked at Gates Rubber Company, the FS Elevator in Hermon and for David Bliss Farms. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. His hobbies included woodworking, bowling, and fishing. He enjoyed men’s fastpitch softball and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and Chicago Bears fan.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Avon Cemetery. Rev. Will Brown will officiate. Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to continue to celebrate Tom’s life at a luncheon at the Abingdon Christian Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
