Thomas “Tommy” E. Hilton, 73 of Abingdon, passed away at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born May 28, 1945 at Saunders Hospital in Avon, the son of Charles William Hilton and Elva (Williamson) Hilton. He married Judy Simmons and they later divorced.
Tommy is survived by one stepson, Bobby (and Keeley) Simmons of Ashton; one stepdaughter, Tammy Simmons of Rockford; 5 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Hilton of Abingdon; one sister, Carol Demery of Abingdon; and nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lyle Hilton, the love of his life, Judy Simmons and two step-great-grandchildren.
He earned his GED in Pontiac, Illinois. He worked as a farmhand and at several odd jobs. He also worked at the Abingdon Pottery for 10 years. He enjoyed working on cars and was considered by many as a “barnyard mechanic” or “car whisperer”. He enjoyed the company of his brother, Dennis’s dog and watching TV.
Cremation will be accorded. His family will celebrate his life privately. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
