William E. “Bill” Heiman Sr., 77, of Galesburg, died at 5:16 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at home.
He was born April 7, 1941, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, the son of William George and Ruth J. (Fones) Heiman. He married Sandra K. Swearingen on February 12, 1961, in Vandalia.
He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Sandy; four children, William E. “Bill” (Lori) Heiman Jr. of Galesburg, Ruth J. (Douglas M.) Mueller of Oquawka, Joy (Neil) Ruhl of Knoxville, and Kelli K. (Rob) Howell of Galesburg; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; a brother, Dan (Sue) Heiman of Charleston; four sisters, Gerri Claeys of Galesburg, Earlene Kooms of Champaign, Sandy (Dave) Toombs of St. Louis, and Merikie (Stan) Toombs of St. Louis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Steve, in infancy, and John.
After logging with his dad as a young man, Bill worked as a roofer during his adult years. He was a union roofer for White’s Roofing and later Peoria Roofing. He and Bill Jr. operated Heiman and Son Roofing for several years. He retired in 2006.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, vehicles, 4 wheeling, riding horses, cooking, and barbequing. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at his son and daughter-in-law’s home, 619 E. Knox St. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 beginning at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
