Bernadine M. Walters, 87 of Maquon, passed away at 2:43 a.m. Sunday, September 22, 2019 at her home.
She was born September 11, 1932 east of London Mills, the daughter of Harley J. and Susan H. (Kinzer) Thurman. She married Albert Courson and they later divorced. She then married Clarence Walters and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Donnie Bradford.
Bernadine is survived by one daughter, Linda S. Bradford of Marietta; two sons, John D. (and Marlene) Courson of London Mills and Charles D. Courson of Smithfield; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1950. She had lived in London Mills, Abingdon, Marietta and Maquon. She worked as a CNA for 30 years at the former Avon Nursing and in taking care of her “Uncle Doc” until his death. She retired in 2003. She was of the Christian faith. Her hobbies included collecting anything to do with Hummingbirds, bird watching, crocheting, baking cookies and cakes, and spending time with her family.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel followed by her funeral at 1 p.m. Rev. Danny Hunt will officiate. Burial will be in West Midway Cemetery near London Mills.
