Mrs. Betty L. Diehl, 80, of Galesburg died at 12:40 a.m., Monday, December 3, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.
Betty was born November 9, 1938 in LaFayette, Kentucky to Mr. Homer and Erline (Still) Hancock. She married Merrill E. Diehl on August 10, 1957 and after 51 years of marriage, he preceded her in death November 26, 2008.
She is survived by one son Robert Merrill (Melody) Diehl of Galesburg, Illinois; one sister Clara Dean Hancock of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; five grandchildren Tiffany (Chad) Springer, Bobby (Tonya) Diehl, Daniel (Corey) Diehl, Christina (James) Plack, and Stephanie (Bo) Merritt; and nine great grandchildren Audrey Diehl, Madison Springer, Abigail Springer, Olivia Springer, Parker Diehl, Griffin Diehl, Aiden Plack, Isaac Merritt and Jeremiah Merritt.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister Peggy Shaw and one son Tony Diehl in 1995.
Betty was raised and educated in LaFayette, Kentucky—having graduated from South Christian High School in 1957. After high school, she married Merrill and the two moved to Galesburg where Betty worked as a Medical Records Transcriptionist at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 18 Years. They moved to South Carolina for a couple of years before returning home to Galesburg and Betty worked at OSF St. Mary’s Hospital for 15 years until her retirement in 2001. Betty was a member of Colonial Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Pastor Darrell Grimm will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Colonial Baptist Church or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
