Mrs. Betty J. (Richey) Sharp

Mrs. Betty J. (Richey) Sharp passed away on June 17, 2018 in Williamsburg, Virginia.

She was born February 4, 1919 to Haney and Mabel Richey in Abingdon, Illinois, where she spent most of her life.  She was the niece of Harry E. Wiles, for whom the Abingdon American Legion Post is named.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers James, Robert and Theodore Richey, her sister, Maxine (Richey) Palmer, her husband, William C. Sharp, and a son, William H. Daily.

Betty is survived by three sons, Terry (and Linda) Daily of Franklin, Tennessee, Robert (and Barbara) Daily of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois and Dennis (and Pam) Sharp of Williamsburg, Virginia; 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Abingdon High School.  She worked various jobs in the area, most notably as a telephone operator for Abingdon Telephone Company and as a cook for Hedding Elementary School.  She was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in 1970.

Cremation was accorded.  Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Abingdon Cemetery. 

A reception/visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Abingdon Banking Center Community Room.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is assisting the family with local announcements.
