Mrs. Bonnie Jean (McMillan) Templeton

Bonnie Jean Templeton, 93, of Galesburg, died peacefully at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2018, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born May 3, 1925, in Monmouth, the daughter of Waldo C. and Mildred (Chapman) McMillan.  She married Clarence J. “Joe” Templeton May 28, 1946, at Central Congregational Church in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death April 8, 2000.

She is survived by three sons, Jonathan B. (Irene) Templeton of Redondo Beach, California, Mark E. (Rhonda) Templeton of Galesburg, and Jamie S. (Barbara) of Redding, Connecticut; six grandchildren, Anthony (Meghan) Templeton, Christian Templeton, Noelle (Robert) Thompson, Taylore Castelli, Wray (Ethan) Cook, and Edward (Kelly) Stewart; six great grandchildren, Nimue and Psyche Thompson, Vincent Templeton, and Matthew, Jordan, and Chloe Stewart; a brother, Fred W. McMillan of Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister, Betty Jones of Denver, Colorado; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Bonnie had worked for American Security and Trust Company in Washington, D.C. in the 1940’s, establishing close friendships that endured for the rest of her life.  She then lived in Los Angeles, where she and Joe raised their three sons.  After returning to Galesburg, she worked for Jumer’s for several years as a banquet server.

Bonnie was a graduate of Monmouth High School.  She attended Bethel Baptist Church and had been a member of the DAR.  Above all, Bonnie was known for her unfailing generosity, graciousness, and warmth.

Cremation will be accorded.  Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church.  Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Weston Oxley officiating.  Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the family to be used for educational expenses for the grandchildren.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
