Mrs. Cora Excine Stranger, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois died 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born November 6, 1934 in Alabama to Raymond and Eula Mae Gilmore Walden. Cora Married Thomas B. Carter Sr. She later married John Stranger July 22, 1977 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Surviving is a son, Thomas B. (Mary Linda) Carter Jr. of Galesburg, a step son, Jeff (Joyce) Stranger of Sacramento, California, a daughter, Linda (Tom) Doubleday of Galesburg, three stepdaughters, a brother, William L. Walden of Vernon, Alabama, two sisters, Ruby Graham of Vernon, Alabama and Shirley Robertson of Vernon, Alabama, over 14 grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Walden.
Cora worked for Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon before becoming a layout inspector for Maytag Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for several years. She was a member of the former 40 & 8 Auxiliary and cofounded Good News Baptist Church, Galesburg. She previously attended Colonial Baptist Church and Bethany Baptist Church.
As requested by Cora, cremation will be accorded. Graveside committal service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Pastor Tom Doubleday will officiate.
