Dorothy Mabel Jones, 89, of Galesburg, formerly of Crystal Lake, died at 8:18 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at home following a brief illness.
She was born April 8, 1929, in Des Plaines, the daughter of Warren Edward and Mabel Bennett (Forbis) Hunt. She married Clifford Weidner on July 31, 1949, in Cary. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her companion of 17 years, Michael Coghlan in March of 2004; her parents; a brother, Warren “Bud” Hunt; and a niece, Barb Hunt.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Michelle Weidner and Lynn Marie (Tim Hasten) Conner, both of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Karolyn (Lt. Col. Brian) Kaczorowski, 1st Sgt. Angelo (fiancé Chella Bradley) Patellaro, Aaron (Nancy Mitchell) Smith, Capt. Michael Conner, ret, and former SSgt. Marja Smith Johnson; and eight great grandchildren, Vincent, Gabriel, and Isaac Patellaro, Gabriel Smith, Nora, Eva, and Jacob Conner, and Lynnlee Johnson.
Dorothy was a school bus driver in Cary for nine years. She then worked as a police dispatcher in Crystal Lake for 20 years, while working as an EMT for Nunda Twp. for 12 of those years. She retired in April 1991. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1947 and attended McHenry Community College.
Dorothy was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. She was a retired Major with the Civil Air Patrol, where she was a pilot. Dorothy enjoyed playing Bingo and knitting and crocheting. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg.
Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Father William Miller officiating. Burial will be later in Cary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
