Mrs. Karl Lee “Dutch” Batson, age 87 of Abingdon, died at 8:13 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2018 at her home with her family at her bedside.
She was born on August 1, 1931 in Abingdon, the daughter of John Carl and Elsie Marie (Baxter) Abbott. She married Joseph A. “Art” Batson on June 26, 1948 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lucille and Irene, one brother, Emery, one son-in-law, Bob Plasters and one step-grandson, Scott Glisan.
Dutch is survived by her children, Larry (and Evaleen) Batson, Danny (and Mary) Batson, Holly Plasters, Steve (and Kelly) Batson and Bonnie (and John) Mason all of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren, Penny (and Rich) Ralston-Berg, Jeff (and Teal) Batson, Kevin Batson, Danielle Hall, Tony (and Michelle) Batson, Cassandra Sullivan, Caleb Batson, Holly Mason, Karly Batson, and Johnathon Mason; 5 great-grandchildren Mason Batson, Kylee Batson, Drake Hall, T.J. Batson and Charley Batson; 3 step-grandchildren Kena (and Larry) Erwin, Brad Glisan, Brian (and Linda) Glisan and 6 step-great-grandchildren Madyson Glisan, Zach Glisan, Lindsay Erwin, Kacie Erwin, Tyres Glisan, and Jordan Glisan; one step-great-great-grandchild, Rhett Glisan; one “adopted” grandchild, Ashley Graves; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families.
Dutch lived in Abingdon all of her life. She attended Abingdon schools. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, having yard sales and going to yard sales, and being at home for her family. She was of the Christian faith.
As she requested, cremation will be accorded. Private burial of her ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
