Mrs. Ethel Jane (Plasters) Morss

Ethel Jane Morss, 86 of Abingdon, passed away at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2019 at the Roseville Rehabilitation and Health Care in Roseville.

She was born September 21, 1932 in Franklin County, Illinois, the daughter of Elza and Nellie (Howard) Plasters.  She married Frederick P. Morss in March of 1952 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church parsonage.

Ethel is survived by her husband of 67 years, Fred; one daughter, Christine (and Darrel) Punke of Eureka; two grandchildren, Laura Punke and Jason Punke; a sister-in-law, Wilma Plasters of Abingdon; and nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Steven P. Morss, and two brothers, Vernon Plasters and Evan Plasters, and a sister-in-law, Melba Plasters.

Ethel moved to Abingdon as a little girl with her family and has lived in Abingdon all of her life. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1952 and was the Homecoming Queen. She worked at Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg for 30 years.  She was of the Methodist faith.  She collected sewing thimbles and dolls.  She also enjoyed a good cup of coffee, something she learned to drink at a very early age, and she enjoyed the annual shopping trips with family and the usual number of packages (many) they would bring home.  She and Fred loved to travel to Estes Park, Colorado, and Branson, Missouri, and they enjoyed square dancing at the former Powell’s Pavilion, west of Abingdon.

Private services were held Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Abingdon Cemetery.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel assisted the family with her arrangements.
