Helen E. Peck, 96, of Galesburg, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born July 16, 1921, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Carl C. and Agnes H. (Kraul) Stoerzbach. She married Robert D. Peck August 8, 1945, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death January 9, 2006.
She is survived by four children, David (Diana) Peck of Galesburg, James (Helen) Peck of Kewanee, Jon (Cindi) Peck of Galesburg, and Sally (Steve) Lundeen of Mequon, Wisconsin. Helen was a loving grandparent to 10 grandchildren, Kate, David, Libby, Brian, Amy, Ryan, Kimi, Lindsey, Joey, and Jennifer; and 19 great grandchildren. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Russell and Robert Stoerzbach.
Helen graduated from Galesburg High School and went on to attend Knox College and the Cottage Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for over 25 years. She was an office nurse, a floor nurse at Cottage, and also was an instructor at the School of Nursing.
She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, participated in numerous mission caravan trips, and was an active member of the 49er’s. Helen was a volunteer with Food Lift, delivering meals to homebound people for many years. This was an activity that she encouraged her grandchildren to help with. She also volunteered with the Cottage Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of PEO and Sirosis Club.
While Bob was living, they enjoyed, along with a group of friends, extensive travel, both in the United States and abroad.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the chapel. Pastor Jordan Knight will officiate.
