Mrs. Joan P. (Heflin) Nelson

Mrs. Joan P. Nelson, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 11:47 am Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

She was born November 26, 1933 in Victoria, Illinois the daughter of Fred and Gladys Holmes Heflin. She married Keith L. Nelson on December 12, 1953 in Victoria.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Keith; her three daughters, Dana Bradshaw of Peoria, Illinois, Pamela (Randy) Allen of Galesburg and Julie (Matthew) Bradley of Monmouth, Illinois, son-in-law, Mike Fuessel of Georgetown, Texas; three granddaughters, Katie (Brett) Meyer, Traci Bradley and Corine Allen and one great granddaughter, Olivia Meyer. She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Karen Fuessel, three brothers, Freddie, James and Purple Heart and Bronze Star Recipient, Robert Heflin, her son-in-law, Robert Bradshaw.

Joan was raised in Victoria and has lived in Galesburg since 1994. In 1949, Joan was the Queen of the Sweet 16 ISHA Basketball tournament. She graduated from ROVA in 1951 and attended classes at Western Illinois University. Joan loved her home and enjoyed working in her yard. Joan was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, June 22, 2019 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Pamela Marolla will officiate. There will be no visitation.
