Mrs. Joan (Hart) Polay

Mrs. Joan Polay, 96 of Galesburg, Illinois died at 3:03 am Monday, September 3, 2018 at Hawthorne Inn.

She was born April 18, 1922 in Cozad, Nebraska the daughter of Willard M. and Violette C. Harrington Hart. She married Benjamin Polay in 1943 in Lynwood, California. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2004.

Joan is survived by her son, Bruce (and Louise) Polay of Galesburg; her brother, Willard Lee Hart of Sterling, Colorado and five grandchildren, Elizabeth Louise Polay, Bruce Adam Polay, Rachel Joanne Polay, Jacob Benjamin Polay and Julia Christine Polay.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother.

Joan worked as a bookkeeper for Dewald Television in New York for 7 years. She worked as a model for 5 years in New York. She later was an instructor of cosmetology at Lakewood Beauty School in California for 7 years.  She was raised in Cozad, lived in New York for 7 years, lived the majority of her life in California and has been in Galesburg since 2008. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1940 and Lakewood Beauty School. She was of the Methodist faith.

It is Joan’s wishes to be cremated with no local services. Burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
