Joyce A. Hopping, 74, of Galesburg, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 11, 2017 at home.
She was born August 14, 1943, in Moweaqua, Illinois, the daughter of Norm L. and Agnes J. (Heim) Trummel. She married John D. Kellogg in 1965, in Lovington, Illinois.
She is survived by her mother, Agnes Trummel of Lovington; a daughter, Shari (and Brian) Kellogg-Burke of Overland Park, Kansas; a sister, Marge (and Frank) Castelli of Decatur, Illinois; two step granddaughters, Sydney Burke and MacKenzie Burke; four nieces and nephews, Angie Hughes, Mike Castelli, Jeff Castelli, and Cindy Blankenship; 16 great nieces and nephews; and 17 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Richard Trummel in 1964.
Joyce was raised and educated in Lovington, where she graduated from high school in 1961. She attended Eastern Illinois University for three years. After moving to Galesburg, she worked for the City of Galesburg for 27 years. She retired in 2005 as Deputy City Clerk.
Joyce was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg and was active with the church choir. She had been a Weight Watchers leader for many years.
Joyce was an active member of the Galesburg Chapter #235 Order of the Eastern Star. She held many offices over the years, most recently serving as Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Illinois.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church beginning with Order of the Eastern Star service. Funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Rev. Vince Rohn will officiate. Additional visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Lovington with graveside service following at 11 a.m. at the Keller Cemetery in Lovington. Rev. Al Rennert will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Eastern Star Home Fund.
