Madge Marie Larson, 73, of near Abingdon, passed away at 12:47 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Madge was born on June 18, 1944 in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy VanAutreve. She married Gale Larson in July 1969 and they would have been married 49 years this year.
Madge is survived by her husband Gale; one son, John (and Kate) Larson; two daughters, Sheri Larson and Kathy Larson; two granddaughters, Anna Larson and Daisy Larson; and one sister, Catherine Thuline.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert VanAutreve, Jr.
Madge graduated from Galva High School as Salutatorian of her class and then received her Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University. She thoroughly enjoyed being a school teacher and taught over 30 years in Beardstown, Galva, and Abingdon schools.
Madge had a big heart and loved serving others. Her faith in Jesus Christ guided her throughout her life. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Madge was very artistic and enjoyed crafting, gardening, cooking, and reading. She also actively served in church for many years.
Visitation for Madge will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4 at the Chapel. Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.
