Mrs. Margaret Mae (Shepherd) Rushing

Margaret Mae (Shepherd) Rushing, 89, of Galesburg, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 in Rosewood Care Center.

She was born May 16, 1929, on the family farm in Rio, the daughter of Joseph W. and Ethel F. (Robertson) Shepherd.  She married C. Eugene McKie and they had two daughters, Nancy (Steve) Stone of Wataga and Linda (Gary) Giger of Moline.  She then married Donald L. Berg and they had two children, Donna (Rick) Swigart of Galesburg and Tim L. Berg of Wataga.  She later married Reuben L. Rushing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a brother, two sisters-in-law, and a step son.

Surviving along with her children are nine grandchildren, Kevin (Christy) Stone and Kelly (Brett) Hill, both of Wataga, Eric (Trisha) Giger of Edwards, Amanda (Ryan) Kelly of East Moline, Scott (Emily) Giger of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Sara (Jon Herschelman) Swigart, Tara Webber, Ryan (Rebellion Dupoy) Swigart, all of Galesburg, and Michele Berg of Wataga; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Ross L. Shepherd of Oneida; several nieces and nephews; two stepchildren, Fred (Jeanette) Rushing of Elmwood and Dennis Rushing in California; a step daughter-in-law, Nancy Rushing of Elmwood; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Margaret lived in Rio, Oneida, and Galesburg areas, where she was a homemaker and mother.  She enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards, traveling in their RV, and she was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.  She attended Rio schools and graduated from Oneida High School in 1947.  She also attended Brown’s Business College.

Cremation will be accorded.  Private family graveside service will be in Rio Baptist Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Rio Baptist Cemetery or Hospice Compassus.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
