Mrs. Marjorie L. (Courson) Westerfield Howard

Marjorie Lou Westerfield Howard, 84 of Galesburg, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born December 3, 1934 in Abingdon, the daughter of Victor and Irene (Dexter) Courson.  She married Alan Westerfield.  She later married Elmer Howard and he preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Courson and two sisters, Betty Fleisher and Shirley Kautz.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Ellen Thomas of Galesburg, Kent Westerfield of Galesburg and Beth (and Eddie) Magee of Knoxville; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Courson of Galesburg and Danny (and Pam) Courson of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Nancy (and Greg) Fries of Mesa, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1952 and from Cottage Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.  She worked as a RN for Dr. Huff and Dr. Hill.  She later worked in billing for Dr. Contro and Dr. Claman.  She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.  She was a snowbird and wintered in the Phoenix and Mesa Arizona areas for several years.  She was a member of the Abingdon Half Century Club.  Her hobbies included bowling, bicycling, and cheering on her beloved Cubs.  She was her grandkids and great-grandkids biggest fan, attending their activities and bringing their favorite drinks and treats.  She was also known as “Grandma Margie” to several others.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel followed by her funeral service at noon.  Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate.  Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens near Galesburg.
