Mrs. Patricia Ann (Taylor) Way, 87, passed from this life at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center on Monday October 29, 2018 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
She was born in Galesburg, Illinois to the late Victor M. and Mabel Etta (Wright) Taylor on October 5, 1931. She married the love of her life Jack L. Way, Sr. on February 18, 1950. Jack preceded her in death June 2, 1981.
Also preceding her in death were her baby sister, Eileen; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann (Way) Ralston, Dale and Betty (Way) Morrison, Paul Way; daughter-in-law, Karlene (Muenzenmyer) Way; and special friend, Winnie Anderson.
Pat attended Abingdon and Galesburg schools, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1950. She and her husband Jack owned Way’s Dairy Bar and Grill in the 60’s and 70’s and later retired from the fabric department at Wal-Mart in Galesburg, Illinois.
Pat volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, raised funds for the Heart Association and Paralyzed Veterans, taught Sunday School and was Ladies’ Auxiliary Secretary Treasurer at Abingdon United Pentecostal Church, member of the Tops Club, an avid reader, St. Louis Cardinal fan and an excellent seamstress.
Pat will be remembered by many as a loyal and honest person and selfless in giving. Pat was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Mt. Vernon.
Surviving are 5 children, Steven Way and friend, Linda Stemerman of Arizona, Jack (Jody) Way of Abingdon, Mary (Nathan) Dixon of Centralia, David (Terri) Way of Abingdon, and Karyl (David) Rice of Mt. Vernon. Also surviving are several grandchildren, Tonja Johnson of Mississippi, Nicholas (Lanae) Way of Texas, Anthony (Cynthia) Way of Lockport, Illinois, MaRita (Dan) Osborne of Streator, Illinois, Amy (Gary) Kalas of Westmont, Jacob Way of Texas, Brent (Annisa) Dixon Huntley, and Elizabeth (Michael) Loyd, both of Florissant, Missouri, Jessica (John) VandeWalker of Burlington, Iowa, and Mackenzie Rice of Mt. Vernon; 19 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; brother- and sisters-in-law, Robert and Wanita Way and Sharon Way of Abingdon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Per Patricia’s wishes cremation was accorded under the direction of Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A private family graveside will be held at a later date under the direction of Hinchliff-Pearson West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Abingdon, Illinois.
