Mrs. Pauline E. Sorrells, 96 of Abingdon, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Roseville Rehabilitation and Health Care.
She was born October 1, 1922 in McDonough County near New Philadelphia, the daughter of Loa and Nettie (Gorsage) Mercer. She married Vilasco O. Sorrells on March 13, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Pauline is survived by her children, Giles (and Carol) Sorrells of Germantown Hills and Loretta (and Gerald) Peterson of Abingdon; 8 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Orin (and Sarah) Mercer of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and one sister, Roberta Morling of Peoria, Arizona.
She and her husband had lived in Warren and Fulton counties most of their adult life and later moved to Abingdon. After Vilasco’s passing, she lived at the Blue Bell Tower in Abingdon before residing at the Care Center of Abingdon and later at Roseville Rehabilitation & Health Care. She was a supervisor and cook in the dietary department at the Care Center of Abingdon and Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Knoxville for 32 years. She proudly earned her degree in Food Services in 1982 while working at the Care Center of Abingdon. She was a member of the Coal Creek Bible Church near London Mills. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, gardening, and playing the card game Canasta.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Pastor Jacob Tourtillott will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
