Mrs. Phyllis Eloise Lybarger, 93, of Galesburg died at 1 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center.
Phyllis was born July 13, 1925 in rural Maquon, Illinois, the daughter of Phillip G. and Sadie L. (Haynes) Owen. She married Eldon Ulm in 1946; then married Raymond Eugene Lybarger in Abingdon on June 2, 1973. After almost 40 year of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 9, 2013.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald K. “Ronnie” Ulm of Piedmont, Alabama, Jerry W. (Karen) Ulm Sr. of Germantown Hills, Illinois, and Jonnie R. Ulm of Avon, Illinois; eight grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Merrill Owen, Rollin L. Owen, and Gerald Owen; and sister, Leona M. Goedeke.
Phyllis graduated from London Mills High School in 1943. She had worked at the former Galesburg Mental Health Center for 26 years, 20 as an aide and six as a Support Service Worker. Phyllis then worked at Zeller Mental Health Center in the same capacity until her retirement. She had lived in Maquon, London Mills, Galesburg, and Avon.
Phyllis enjoyed making many crafts. She and Ray loved traveling throughout the United States, enjoying this beautiful country of ours. Phyllis loved her family and friends and didn’t know a stranger. She had a great spirit, enjoying laughing and having fun. Phyllis will be remembered for her love of butterflies.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the chapel with Rev. Rick Weiss officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
