Mrs. Phyllis "PJ" Jane (Neill) Roate

Phyllis Jane “PJ” Roate, 84, of Galesburg, died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019 in the Knox County Nursing Home.

She was born April 1, 1934, in Basco, Illinois, the daughter of Virgil and Alice M. (Anderson) Neill.  She married Howard Lee “Jake” Roate on December 11, 1955, in West Point, Illinois.  He preceded her in death August 7, 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy L. (Dr. Donald) Brown of Erie, Colorado and Carla Jane (Ben) Burgland of Galesburg; two granddaughters, Jennifer (René) Monares Chavarria of Erie, Colorado and Hannah Jane Burgland of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Clair Neill; and three sisters, Dorothy Oates, Kay Stout, and Joan Dierking.

Phyllis was a homemaker.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.  Phyllis enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and reading.  PJ and Jake were known as avid walkers throughout the community.

Cremation will be accorded.  No visitation or service is planned.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
