Mrs. Sally A. Benedict, 84, of Knoxville, Illinois died 8:11 a.m. Monday August 13, 2018 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born July 2, 1934 in Galesburg, to Edwin and Elizabeth Wallick Marquith. She married Davey L. Benedict in 1953. He preceded her in death April 16, 2015.
Surviving is a daughter, Jill (and Mark) Davis of Knoxville, three sons, Steve (and Karen) Benedict of Knoxville, Dan (and Cathy) Benedict of Lake Bracken, and Rob (and Carrie) Benedict of Knoxville, eleven grandchildren, Dusty (and Laura) Swanson, Nick (and Erin) Benedict, Chris (and Nick) Benedict, Blake (and Lindsay) Benedict, Trent Benedict, Adam Benedict, Derek Davis, Grant Davis, Amber Bowling, Ryan (and Lyndi) Bowling, and John Bowling, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Terry Benedict, and two brothers, Ed Marquith and Bob Marquith.
Sally graduated from Knoxville High School in 1952. She worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a Clerk for 30 years and retired in 1996. She was one of the first women tower operators.
Sally loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren attending all their events from games to prom and any function they were involved in. Sally loved to knit and enjoyed sending cards with lottery scratch tickets to family and friends.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the chapel. Rev. Michel Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.
