Mrs. Shirley A. (Dawdy) Green

Mrs. Shirley A. Green, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 12:33 pm Sunday April 28, 2019 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

She was born April 21, 1934 in Galesburg the daughter of Delwyn H. and Kathryn Knable Dawdy. She married Robert L. Green on April 9, 1955 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2000.

Shirley is survived by her step son, Walter T. “Doc” (Debra) Green of Florence, Colorado; step daughter, Jacquetta (Frank) Cipriano of Nashville, Tennessee; two brothers, David (Marlene) Dawdy of St. Mary’s, Ohio, and Richard (Bertie) Dawdy of Galesburg, Illinois; four sisters, Jean (Alfred) Livingston, Jo (Ron) Wolf both of Oquawka, Jill (Roy) Hawkins of Galesburg and Sue Dawdy of Topeka, Kansas; five step grandchildren, one step great grandchild,  many nieces and nephews, special friends Arthur “Chip” and Sandy O’Dell of Swan Lake and adopted sons Steve and Jim of Galesburg. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three brothers.

Shirley was an operator for the Intra State Phone Company and later worked as the bookkeeper for the Traveling Welder for 40 years. She graduated from Avon High School in 1953. She volunteered as a Reading Buddy. Shirley was a member of the Knox County YMCA and enjoyed spinning.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, May 3, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 am at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
