Ms. Barbara Elsie Tweed, 82, of Galesburg, died at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2019, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born April 6, 1936, in Monmouth, to Cecil Wayne and Alice Laura (Seeley) Montgomery. In 1955, she married Mr. Hoye Tweed and they later divorced.
Barbara is survived by her children, Cathy (David “Crockett”) Stevens, Judi (Shannon) Sopher, David (Karen) Tweed, all of Galesburg, Thomas Tweed of Peoria, James (Cheryl) Tweed of Dixon, Iowa, Robert (Sherri) Tweed of Syracuse, Utah, and Edward Tweed of Montana; nine grandchildren, Denver (Dolly) Tweed, Dustin (Kisa) Tweed, Brandon Tweed, Ashleigh (Alex) Kane, Nicholas Tweed, Emily Tweed, Julian Baires-Tweed, Tyson (Jessica) Mettler, and Eric Stevens, and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Janet Earp and Carol Skorik, both of Wisconsin, along with many dear nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John Montgomery and Russell Montgomery
Barbara graduated from DeKalb High School in 1953. She worked as a Dietary Aide in Monmouth and Galesburg for 30 years before retiring in 1998. She was of Methodist faith. In her free time, Barbara enjoyed gardening, solving crossword puzzles, knitting, and tuning in to watch football every Sunday—she was a Green Bay Packers fan.
Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2019, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Burial is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
