77 of 310 W. Martin St. died at 6:45 pm Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at her home. She was born on September 1, 1929 in Havana, Cuba to Juan Dominguez and Alicia Morera Puentes Marrero. She came to the United States in 1958 and became a citizen soon after her arrival. She married Leslie I. McVey on June 17, 1961 in New York, NY. After her husband's time in the Army was served they moved to Abingdon. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1986. After her husband's death she moved to Galesburg and returned to Abingdon in 2004. Surviving are two sons, Nick (and Sandra) McVey of RR St. Augustine and Steve "Irv" (and Kathy) McVey of Abingdon; one daughter, Shani McVey of Peoria; 4 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; a brother in Florida and a sister and brother in the country of Cuba. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She had worked at Maytag for 19 years and later worked for 7 years at the Wendy's restaurant in Galesburg. She also assisted with the lunch programs at various Galesburg Schools. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Public Schools Foundation c/o Tompkins State Bank, 204 N. Monroe St., Abingdon, IL 61410.
