Ansel D. VanWinkle

74, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon and formerly of Little York, died at 11:05 pm Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on August 3, 1933 in Camden, IL to Fred and Elizabeth Danner VanWinkle. He married Frances Joy on December 17, 1955 in Burlington, IA. He later married Jan Thomas. She preceded him in death. Ansel is survived by two daughters, Tina Cline of St. Louis, MO, Gayle Haynes of Oklahoma City, OK; his grandchildren, Spencer Cline, Larry Roberts, Casey Roberts, Kristi Roberts; a brother, Danny VanWinkle of Lake Tahoe, NV; a half sister Mary Chick . He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lyman, James and Lee. He worked at Automatic Vending in Burlington, IA for several years. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member and past commander of the Gladstone VFW. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Cremation will follow the prayer service. Private burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood at a later date. Memorials to OSF Hospice.
