, 96 of 702 S. Main St. Abingdon, died at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born April 1, 1909 in Sant'Arsenio, Italy to Angelo and Rosa Mangieri Ippolito. He married Carmela Costa on August 18, 1949 in Sant'Arsenio. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Angelo (and wife Sue) Ippolito of Naperville, IL; two daughters, Rose (and husband Dan) McKee of Denver, CO and Madalene (and husband Gary) Fuchs of Barrington, IL; 4 grandsons, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and a brother. He had lived in Abingdon since the age of twelve. He attended Abingdon schools. He worked at the Abingdon Pottery for many years. He served in the US Army and was a member of "The Greatest Generation" and served in the Pacific and fought in New Guinea during WW II. He was cited for Meritorious Service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Joseph Presley will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 until 4:00 pm and from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with a Rosary service at 7:30 pm conducted by Father Ernest Pizzamiglio. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
