Arlien Johnson Obituary

83 of 701 W. Monmouth St. died at 10:50 pm Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital ER. He was born on December 28, 1922 in Warren County to Herman and Mabel Ray Johnson. He married Marna Boyer on June 30, 1946 in Abingdon. She survives. Also surviving are brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alvin Johnson and Eugene Johnson and one sister, Gerry Boyd. He served as an Army medic from 1943 until 1945 during WW II and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member and past commander of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He worked at the former OMC, Gale Products Division in Galesburg retiring in 1983. He also worked at the former Shank's Clothing Store in Abingdon for several years. He was a past member and captain of the Abingdon Auxiliary Police and was a past volunteer EMT for the Abingdon Ambulance. He was a member of the former Abingdon Boat Club and enjoyed camping. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon cemetery with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Saturday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Abingdon Community Festival Association or the Abingdon High School Athletic Department.
